What Is the International Standard Football Field Size?
Have you ever you wondered what is the international standard football field size? The legislation stipulates that the pitch should have the dimensions established by FIFA. These must be respected by the football clubs to be considered regulatory and to be able to host official competitions. On OneHowTo, we show you the international standard football field size according to regulations and some examples of Spanish stadiums.
Every football club decides their own measurements
FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) is the institution that regulates the sport federations at the international level, and it officially provides a range of standard sizes for football fields that must be respected. Similarly, there are also regulations on size of the goals or the weight of the balls.
However, each club can freely decide, within that margin set by the FIFA, both the length and the width of its own grounds. Depending on the dimensions established by the club, this could benefit them over the opponent during the game. However, because of this possible advantage, there is some controversy with this regulation.
FIFA
According to FIFA, the length of a football field in local matches must be a minimum of 90 meters and a maximum of 120 meters. Regarding the width of the field, the dimensions range from 45 to 90 meters. Football fields must be rectangular.
Dimensions of the field according to FIFA:
- Long: 90-120 meters
- Width: 45-90 meters
On the other hand, for a field for other sports, the dimensions are different, with a width of between 20 and 25 meters and a length of between 25 and 30 meters.
