First of all, note that because of legal reasons, we cannot make the exact Gatorade at home. But we know the special recipes that make homemade isotonic sports drinks so we're going to show you how to make a drink that comes close!

These types of drinks are recommended for athletes because they are highly moisturising and help replenish electrolytes and minerals lost after physical exertion. Similarly, many of the isotonic drinks are also indicated in cases of diarrhoea or dehydration, as the body absorbs them very quickly and thus that helps restore water and nutrients very efficiently.

So, the first step to prepare an isotonic drink at home is to squeeze a lemon or citric as you prefer, it can also be an orange or a grapefruit. Once squeezed, pour it in a bottle or a container large enough where you will prepare the homemade Gatorade.

Some people turn to fruit juice - liquid or special dust which is already prepared, but it is important to note that this process means multiple vitamins and nutrients are lost, so it will always be much more advisable to squeeze the natural fruits.

Then you'll need to pour a litre of mineral water into the bowl of juice. If you can, we recommend you use bottled water and not tap water. Because we're trying to replicate the manufactured isotonic drink as closely as possible, we don't want to use tap water that might contain substances like chlorine or lime scale.

Finally, you must add liquid ingredients that provide solid minerals to your sports drink that's homemade. So, pour in the sugar, salt and baking soda and stir vigorously to mix and get as much as possible to dissolve in the water with squeezed lemon.

6

And ready! Your isotonic drink will become an ideal substitute for Gatorade or Powerade for a fraction of the cost. So, you will only take it after your workout to regain strength and recover the minerals lost through physical exertion.
