How To Make A Cricket Ball

Composite balls made of plastic are not appropriate for a cricket game. So, you need to create a leather ball, which is not as easy as said. The ball that you create should be shiny on both sides, hard and come off the bat and wicket quicker. Here at OneHowTo.com, we have already told you how to make a cricket bat, but now, we will tell you how to make a cricket ball on your own.

You'll need:
  • 19in leather
  • String
  • Cork
  • Red dye
  • Hammer
  • Hard string and needle (for stiches)
Steps to follow:
1

The first step you'll need to take to make your own cricket ball is to take small pieces of leather enough to make a ball, and dye them in the color of your choice. Mostly, cricket balls are red in color.

2

The next step is to cut the dyed piece of leather in the size desired for the cricket ball. The general measurments are between 16 to 19in diameter.

3

Take a wooden cork, and wrap strings around it with the help of a strong thread.

4

Hammer the wrapped cork to make it a spherical core shape.

5

Stitch two leather halves together to give it the shape of a ball.

6

The string wrapped sphere and the two leather halves are weighed together to make sure that the total weight does not go beyond the recommended value (from 5.5oz to 5.75oz)

7

Leave the cork cores to dry completely before you can make cricket balls out of them.

8

Stitch the two leather halves together with the wrapped sphere inside.
